International drug control mechanisms focus on the elimination of the production, use and trafficking of drugs, through the implementation of public policies criminalizing these substances and their non-medical use. The implementation of these policies has had and still has a negative impact on other global development goals, as stated by the United Nations in 2008 and recognized as “unintended consequences” of drug control.

Linking to the programmes at the intersection of drug policy and development funded by the Geneva Canton in Latin America and elsewhere, this event  will provide an opportunity to link researchers and practitioners and experts in the field, on alternative development and social policies.
