Vaccination for children
Some serious children’s diseases are now rare or have even disappeared thanks to vaccination. A reduction in vaccination coverage could cause these to re-emerge and put children and adults at risk. Vaccination is particularly important for protecting children who are cared for in group settings such as nurseries, kindergartens, schools, etc.
It is important to check children’s vaccination status regularly. This is why your child’s vaccination record is requested when they are 28 months, 7-8 years and 12-13 years old. These checks are a legal requirement under Swiss federal and cantonal law.
Procedure for submitting your child’s vaccination record
Once your child reaches the age of 28 months, 7-8 years and 12-13 years, you will be sent a letter asking you to submit a copy of their vaccination record through a secure e-procedure (e-démarche) run by the state.
To do this, you must:
- Have a ge.ch e-démarches account (simple or verified registration). If you don’t yet have an account, you will need to create one.
- Take a photo or scan of all pages (both sides) of the vaccination record.
- Submit them using the online form.
Vaccination at school
At 12-13 years of age, when your child’s vaccination record is checked, they will also be offered free papillomavirus (HPV) and hepatitis B vaccination in schools during their lower secondary years (cycle d’orientation).
