The Philanthropy Sector in Geneva

This document is the English translation of the original report Le secteur philanthropique à Genève – État des lieux et recommandations pour l'État de Genève. For technical reasons, the charts on pages 36 and 50 have not been translated.

At the request of the Department of Economy and Employment, the Centre for Philanthropy at the University of Geneva has carried out an in-depth analysis of Geneva’s philanthropic sector. Its mission: to propose concrete measures to help the authorities strengthen and facilitate the work of key players in the field. Scheduled for release in autumn 2024, the report draws on 90 interviews conducted with a wide and diverse range of stakeholders, as part of a pioneering, forward-looking approach. It sheds light on the richness and diversity of the local ecosystem, while also highlighting the distinctive features of Geneva’s philanthropic landscape — in particular, its close ties with numerous international and non-governmental organizations based in the region.
