The renewal of your residence or work permit depends on the type of permit you have and your nationality.
You hold a durable B permit or a C permit that expires soon.
Normally you will receive a notice of expiry one month before the expiration date of your residence permit. Simply follow its instructions on renewing your permit.
If you have not received a notice of expiry, you must send in the completed Form K by postal mail no later than 15 days before the expiry of your permit.
Once you have submitted your renewal application and as long as your expired permit allowed you to engage in a gainful activity, you may continue to work pending our decision.

Payment is made by QR invoice sent with the notice of expiry or on the basis of an invoice which will be sent by post after reception of the K form.

You hold a cross-border work permit that expires soon and are still working with the same employer.
Normally, your employer receives a notice of expiry one month before the expiration date of your cross-border work authorisation. Simply follow its instruction on renewal of your permit.
If your employer has not received a notice of expiry, you should submit your renewal application via our online form.
Payment is made by QR invoice sent with the notice of expiry or online for applications filed via our online form.

You hold an N or F permit that is expiring soon.
15 days before your permit expires.
Depending on the status of the procedure, your permit may be renewed or an emergency assistance certificate may be given to you.
The maximum duration of extension is, depending on the state of the procedure:
You must come in person to the Protection, Asylum and Return Service desks with your N or F permit in order to have it extended.
If you hold an N permit and are gainfully employed, you must also bring the N form completed and signed by your employer.

You hold a short-term residence permit (L permit) or a conditional residence permit (B permit) that expires soon.
The request for an extension of your authorisation must be sent at least 15 days before its expiration date.
If you are a national of a third country, your employer must apply for the extension of your permit.
In principle, third-country nationals holding an L permit may not change jobs.
Any relevant supporting evidence as requested by the foreign labour service when the permit was originally applied for.
An invoice will be sent by post after receipt of form K.
The applications of third-country nationals are submitted for examination to the foreign labour service, which receives a fee.
