For whom
You hold:
- a short-term residence permit (L permit) or
- a conditional residence permit (B permit) or
- a residence permit (B permit) limited in time
that expires soon.
When
The request for an extension of your authorisation must be sent at least 15 days before its expiration date.
Terms
All requests must be sent ton the Cantonal Office for Population and Migration (OCPM) using form K at the bottom of the page.
Upon receipt of the renewed permit, the expired permit must be destroyed or returned destroyed (cut in half) by postal mail to the OCPM.
For third-country nationals
If you are a national of a third country, your employer must apply for the extension of your permit.
If the extension of the permit is subject to the achievement of certain objectives, then the application must provide evidence that these objectives have been met, as stated on the reverse of form K.

For third-country nationals, the extension of an L permit with the same employer requires a new decision by the OCIRT if the duration requested goes beyond the initial authorization granted.
In principle, third-country nationals holding an L permit may not change jobs, except for major reasons.

- colour copy of a valid I.D.
Any relevant supporting evidence as requested by the Foreign Labour Service Directorate when the permit was originally applied for.
Price
An invoice will be sent by post after receipt of form K.
The applications of third-country nationals are submitted for examination to the foreign labour service, which receives a fee.
